Easter Service 2002

There are very few religious services which can compare to the Ukrainian (Orthodox) Easter service.

It is a service which all should experience

Vidrodzhenia is one of the few choirs who sing the Easter Mass without the external intervention. Vidrodzhenia are fortunate to have as their members experienced trained Dyaks (cantors) both male and female.
Vidrodzhenia were invited to sing the Easter Mass by Father Jaroslaw Rij. He was joined by Father Evhen Nebesniak from Rome. The service was held in St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Manchester.
The sung Liturgy is a complex. It contains some of the finest Ukrainian sacred musical works. Vidrodzhenia's Mass was assembled by its musical director Halyna Savchyn and encompasses such composers as Bortyansky, Leontovych and Vedel.
This year saw a departure from the norm. Three female singers Andrianna Krywonos (alto), Anna Sywanyk (soprano) and Halyna Savchyn (mezzo soprano) sang the Easter Irmos. This special hymn has been sung by various males for the past 30 years. The overall effect was stunning.
Conducting a Mass for a hour is both physically and mentally tiring
After a hard service it's good to relax.
